AS WE ARE | Tone, Emotion and Power of my Song

In my song, As We Are, I have added lots of different elements in it so as to keep it interesting and have an element of unexpectedness in it.

In the first verse of my song, what I keep in mind is: INTROSPECTION. What comes to mind is silence, thoughtfulness and confusion. This introspection also limits me to the amount of power I use in my voice in this verse – Introspection is not sung out there, but rather within.

In the second verse, which is also known as the bridge, the emotion is CONFUSION. Here, I still keep my voice and the power of it low. There is a slight sadness as it is all about pondering why you are doing all these things that are clearly not making you happy.

In the first chorus the element is CONFIRMATION. I keep this softer and gentler than the other one as there is still a bit of confusion here. What I also keep in mind here is that I am singing to a person who really is not happy with themselves and I am trying to convince them that they are beautiful in the way that they are. Telling it to them softly so that it reaches them, speaks to them.

In my second verse, the element is REALIZATION. I begin to bring in a bit of a smile here, as you realize that this is not who you want to be, and that it’s time to have the courage to be yourself. My voice begins to become a bit stronger as the elements shift from confusion and sadness to courage and happiness.

The second bridge which is the opposite of the first bridge (one can see that they speak to each other – my whole song is technically a conversation with oneself) the feeling is BELIEF IN YOURSELF. More strength is introduced into my song here and the tone becomes happier, the mood lightens and smile is brought into a song. It brings a joy inside the words.

The climax of my song has the element of ASSURANCE in it. There are no limitations of power in this part of the song.

The second chorus is AFFIRMATION. I really dig into the emotion here, I lose myself in the notes and the melody. I am affirming that this is who we are – beautiful as we are. I don’t go full on into power, but I go full on into the smile and am affirming it to all those people out there who don’t feel that they are good enough, adequate enough or beautiful enough.

In the outro there is the element of RECLAMATION. A reassurance, happiness and claiming of your beauty is displayed in this part of the song. The outro is my favorite part of the song as I love the notes and the tones and power that are displayed here.
